Building an Identity Scheme Needs More Than a Trust Framework

Building an Identity Scheme Needs More Than a Trust Framework

Combined Session
Thursday, May 08, 2025 15:35—16:35
Location: A 05-06

Around the world there has been significant progress in developing trust frameworks and technical standards. These help to provide alignment on identity assurance but for an identity schemes to be commercially viable many more things need to be considered.
There needs to be clear governance, addressing topics such as ownership, decision making and consumer protection. There also needs to be clear commercial rules supporting a sustainable commercial model, and to address the thorny topic of liability. There’s also an important regulatory angle which may impact how the scheme can operate by jurisdiction.
Setting up a single identity scheme is hard enough. Enabling interoperability across multiple schemes is the real challenge, but also what will ultimately enable digital identity to work at scale. This session will explore the practical, technical, legal and commercial aspects to developing an identity scheme, including why risk management, technical interoperability and common rules are critical to delivering success.
